Fall is the season for getting out and enjoying the comfortable weather, snuggling up with a hot apple cider, and doing any number of fun activities like picking apples. But what about your pup? Luckily, there’s no shortage of dog-friendly activities you can do with your furry friend either! Here’s some of our favorites.
Go to a Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin patches can be great fun for both people and pets! Look into pumpkin patches in your area and find a pet-friendly option. Not only does this provide a great bonding experience for you and your pup, but it also gives your dog an opportunity to practice scent enrichment by sniffing around the patch. Plus, it makes for a great photo op!
Visit the Beach
You might not think of visiting a beach during fall, but it’s the perfect time of year to avoid the crowds. There are plenty of dog-friendly beaches where your dog can enjoy the feel of the sand and practice digging while running around. If you have a dog who is unsure of other dogs, this may be a great opportunity to let your dog enjoy the beach while it isn’t as busy.
Offer Dog-Friendly Fall Foods
There are plenty of options to offer dog-safe fall foods to your pup! You could purchase a food that includes classics like turkey, sweet potato, and green beans. You can also offer dog-safe ingredients from the same fall foods you enjoy. Not sure if you want to offer the ingredients directly? Offer a fall-themed treat like Bocce’s Pumpk’n Harvest treats.
Jump in Leaf Piles
One of the simplest ways you can incorporate your dog into fall fun is to let them romp around in a leaf pile. There are so many unique smells in leaves that dogs rarely get a chance to experience. The scent enrichment combined with running in and out of the pile is the perfect mental and physical exercise combination!
Create Artwork
After a long day enjoying the autumn weather, cuddle up with your dog and create fun fall artwork. One example is turning your dog’s pawprint into a pumpkin. All you need is a small canvas, paint, and your pup! Or, if you’d rather, you can smear paint on a canvas, cover it with a ziplock bag, and smear the outside of the sealed bag with peanut butter or another treat. As your dog licks the peanut butter from the bag, they’ll also smear the paint, creating custom doggy art!
