While Halloween is commonly seen as a stressful holiday for our pets, there are ways to make it fun for them instead. Here are some of our favorite ways to celebrate spooky season with your dog and cat (no trick-or-treating required!).
Build a Boo Basket
Boo Baskets always tend to go viral this time of year on social media—and for good reason! These fun (and spooky) baskets are the perfect way to get in the mood for Halloween. Plus, they’re super easy to put together.
If you don’t know where to start with building your pet’s basket, here’s some things you’ll find in ours:
- A Halloween basket
- Spooky treats (we love Bocce’s Halloween treats)
- A longhorn from Super Snouts
- Halloween-themed toys (we get ours from Chewy!)
- A Halloween bandana or collar
And if you want to skip the building part, you can also pick up one of our Trick or Treats Halloween Boxes for dogs or our Monsters and Meows Boxes for cats—only available at Chewy! These boxes include treats and dental care for some post-”candy” cleanup.
Hollow Out a Pumpkin for Enrichment
There’s no Halloween staple quite like carving pumpkins and with this enrichment activity, your pet can finally join in on the fun. Not only are pumpkins great for your dog’s overall health (save those guts and seeds!), but they also can be enriching with a little bit of ingenuity.
Simply take a hollowed out pumpkin, fill it with a towel/cloth you don’t mind getting a bit messy, and your pup’s favorite treats. They’ll be encouraged to sniff around the pumpkin and dig through the cloth to find the treats. If you have a particularly nervous pet, this enrichment activity might also be beneficial for them on Halloween night—especially if you sprinkle some Super Snouts Firm Up! into their pumpkin to help settle any upset tummies
Let Your Pet Bob for Apples
This is another enrichment activity that has the bonus perk of being hydrating for your dog or cat. All you need to do is grab a tupperware container, fill it with water, add some diced apples and treats, and then let them bob to their heart’s content.
Of course, if you’re prepping this activity for your cat, it’s good to keep in mind that they can’t really taste sweet things. Instead, get creative with what treats or snacks you have them bob for.
