How to Travel with Fresh Pet Food
Nov 05, 2024 - Antelopepets

Traveling for the holidays is stressful enough without having to worry about your pet’s meals – especially if they’re on a specialty diet or eat exclusively fresh food. Whether you plan on traveling by plane or car, don’t worry: we have you (and your pet!) covered with our tried and tested fresh food travel tips.

Traveling by Car

When it comes to traveling with fresh food, planning ahead is key. In order to make your road trip as smooth as possible, there’s some things you need to consider and some items that you’ll have to pick up beforehand. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Make sure that you’re only traveling with food that’s completely frozen.
  • Pick up a cooler to store your fresh (and in this case frozen) food in. We’re a big fan of this light-weight but effective cooler from RTIC.
  • Stock up on ice and be prepared to change it out if you notice that it’s starting to melt.

Depending on your protein preference as well as the cooler you’re using, My Perfect Pet food will stay fresh in a cooler for about two days. Don’t forget to transfer your bars to a freezer immediately after arriving at your location though!

Traveling by Plane

Just like traveling by car, you should have a plan in place far before you check into your flight. It’s also important to be up to date with TSA regulations. You can bring frozen food through security or place it in a checked bag as long as it’s completely frozen at the time that you arrive at the airport. Here’s some other tips:

  • When packing, use a cooler bag and then insulate it within your luggage with layers of clothes and/or pieces of cardboard.
  • Make sure to communicate with airport staff and security that there is frozen food in your bag. Be prepared for it to be inspected as well.
  • Immediately transfer your food to the freezer upon arriving at your destination.

When properly packed, you shouldn’t have to worry about your My Perfect Pet bars when traveling domestically within the USA.

And if you’re planning on traveling for the holidays but don’t have the space to pack your pet’s food, you can update your subscription address with My Perfect Pet and have their next delivery arrive at your destination’s doorstep!
